Privacy Policy for SnippetHub Chrome Extension

This Privacy Policy describes how the SnippetHub Chrome Extension (“SnippetHub,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our Chrome extension.
1. Data We Collect
When you use the SnippetHub Chrome Extension, we collect the following types of information:
- Personally Identifiable Information (PII):
- Email Address: When you create an account or sign in using Google Sign-In or Email/Password, we collect your email address. This is used solely for authentication purposes and to identify your user account within the extension.
- Name (Optional): If you sign in via Google, your name may be provided by Google as part of your public profile. We use this to personalize your user experience within the extension (e.g., displaying your name).
- Photo URL (Optional): If you sign in via Google, your profile picture URL may be provided by Google. We use this to display your avatar within the extension.
- Authentication Information:
- User ID (UID): A unique identifier generated by Firebase Authentication is collected upon account creation or sign-in. This UID is used to link your saved snippets and preferences to your specific user account within our database.
- Hashed Passwords: For Email/Password accounts, your password is sent to and securely handled by Google Firebase Authentication. We do not store or have direct access to your plain-text password.
- User Activity & Snippet Data:
- Text Snippets: Content (text, rich text/HTML) that you explicitly create, save, or modify within SnippetHub. This is the core data of the extension.
- Snippet Metadata: Information associated with your snippets, including titles, categories, tags, keywords, folder names, creation dates (
createdAt), and display order (order). - Usage Statistics:
copyCount: Tracks how many times a snippet has been copied using the extension.lastCopied: Records the last timestamp a snippet was copied.- These statistics are collected to provide you with insights on your SnippetHub Dashboard (e.g., “Most Used Snippets,” “Total Uses”) and to help you manage your most frequently used content.
- Local Preferences:
- We use your browser’s local storage (
localStorageandchrome.storage.local) to store preferences such as your chosen theme, preferred snippet sorting method, the last folder you viewed, your most recent search query, and whether you have completed the onboarding tour. This data remains on your device and is used to maintain your personalized experience across sessions.

We DO NOT collect any of the following types of data:
- Health information
- Financial and payment information
- Personal communications (e.g., emails, texts, chat messages, beyond authentication-related communications with Firebase)
- Precise geographical location (we do not access GPS, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth location)
- Full web Browse history (we do not track the list of all web pages you visit or associated data beyond what is necessary for our content script to perform keyword expansion on the active tab).
- Detailed user activity for tracking purposes (e.g., network monitoring, extensive click/mouse/keystroke logging beyond snippet expansion interactions).
2. How We Use Your Information
The information we collect is used exclusively to provide, maintain, and improve the functionality of the SnippetHub Chrome Extension:
- To Provide Core Functionality: Your snippets, categories, folders, and keywords are stored and retrieved to enable the primary features of the extension, such as text expansion, snippet management, and organization.
- Authentication and Synchronization: Your email and UID are used to authenticate your identity and synchronize your snippets and preferences across different browsers or devices where you are signed into SnippetHub.
- Personalization: Your chosen theme, sort order, and other local preferences are used to customize your experience within the extension.
- Analytics Dashboard: Snippet copy counts and last copied timestamps are used to generate the “Analytics Dashboard” within the extension, providing you with personal usage insights. This data is for your benefit and is not used for external profiling or marketing.
- Support and Maintenance: In rare cases of technical issues, anonymized or aggregated data might be reviewed to diagnose problems, but always with a focus on privacy.
3. How We Share Your Information
Your data is primarily stored with Google Firebase (Firestore for database, Authentication for user accounts). Google Firebase acts as our backend service provider and processes data in accordance with their privacy policies. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
4. Data Security
We are committed to protecting your data. We utilize Google Firebase, which employs robust security measures, including encryption, to protect your data at rest and in transit. While no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information.
5. Your Data Rights & Deletion
- Access and Correction: You can access and modify most of your snippet data directly within the SnippetHub extension’s interface.
- Account Deletion: You have the right to delete your SnippetHub account and all associated data permanently. This can be done directly from the user menu within the SnippetHub side panel. Be aware that this action is irreversible and will remove all your snippets, folders, and custom settings.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
